| ECOLOGY:
Life on small islands provides a microcosm for understanding
how can live in balance with our environment and each other.
MAN'S IMPACT: Man impacts the environment more
than any other living thing. We can impact our environment
as much positively as negatively.
MALAMA: The fragile ecosystem of a coral reef illustrates
the delicate balance of nature. Upsetting this balance
can cause serious consequences. ACTION FOR THE FUTURE: The cultural values of people
who have survived long periods of time in the same region
support the need to live in harmony with the environment.
The cultures of today need to recognize the importance
of making informed choices about the use of our natural
resources and the impact that we have on our environment.
The voyages of the Hokulea to the Northwestern Hawaiian
Islands will serve as an educational template to be used
by our communities of the world.
